World music

This concert offers an audience of all ages a musical journey around the globe

Since the beginning of the Skarazula Ensemble, the musicians have been attracted by Middle Eastern music. The first piece in the group's repertoire, as early as 1999, was "Kürdilihicazkar longa" from the Turkish repertoire. As the group's knowledge of Middle Eastern music was very limited at the time, the version of the piece was incomplete. Over the years, François Rainville has deepened his knowledge in the field. His meeting with the Turkish master İsmail Hakkı Fencioğlu has helped him focus mainly on Turkishn music.

The musical spectrum explored by Skarazula is vast: traditional and classical Turkish pieces, Kurdish love songs, klezmer music, Sephardic and Greek songs live side by side. The sound of the oud, saz, guitar, violin and bouzouki strings mingles with the neys, the kaval, the clarinet and the flutes. all supported by the doumbek, djembe, rek and daf.

The group celebrates the diversity of world traditions with music from the Mediterranean and Eastern Europe. With a multitude of instruments in their bag, Skarazula will take you through thousands of miles during this magical concert.
